The Importance of Sleep: Is a Nap Necessary?

Pediatrician's advice 7-10
Sleep is a way for the nervous system and body to rest. Specific standards are written: a 2-year-old child should sleep for a certain amount of time, a 10-year-old for another, and so on, but it’s all individual. The younger the child is, the longer they will sleep; they need to recover after eventful days. The older the child, the less time for sleep (new activities and obligations arise). At this age, a midday nap is not mandatory. If the child is tired, sick, or not in the mood, let them sleep and rest. If they are active and cheerful throughout the day, can find something to do, their performance in kindergarten/school/elsewhere does not suffer, and they sleep soundly at night, then there is no need for a midday nap.
